Dry Ice

Carboglace®, ACP’s Dry Ice (carbon ice) or CO2 in solid form, is obtained by expanding liquid carbon dioxide at atmospheric pressure. During that process, half the liquid CO2 turns into gas while the other half turns into CO2 snow. This CO2 snow is compressed in hydraulic presses, creating ice blocks, slices or pellets. Dry Ice (solid carbon dioxide) is a simple but ingenious product with major advantages and many industrial applications. ACP produces Dry Ice both for small, local customers and for large, foreign multinationals.

Advantages of Dry Ice

The main advantages of Dry Ice:

In general:

  • natural product, environmentally friendly
  • sublimates into gas leaving no residue
  • inexpensive
  • odourless, tasteless
  • non-flammable, non-toxic
  • clean and approved for use in the food industry

Additional advantages for cooling and cryogenic transport:

  • temperature: -78.5°C, three times the refrigeration capacity of water ice per unit weight (heat of sublimation = 645 kJ/kg)
  • keeps temperature in the right range
  • creates a bacteriostatic environment, which ensures the quality of the cooled products as it prevents them from oxidising

Additional advantages for industrial surface cleaning:

  • allows most items to be cleaned in situ without time consuming disassembly
  • can be used without damaging active electrical or mechanical parts or creating fire hazards
  • can be used to remove production residue, release agents, contaminants, paints, oils and biofilms
